Red Star Thornton Veterans Memorial Email Newsletter - August 16, 2007

Greetings to our supporters!

The memorial project is moving ahead at a steady and deliberate pace and we felt it was time to provide an update to everyone.

cid:image002.gif@01C6CD77.8CB321F0  ”Coming Soon” Sign Unveiled; Keynote Address Provided by Colorado Secretary of State Mike Coffman. This past Wednesday, August 15, The Thornton Veterans Memorial Foundation conducted a ceremony to unveil a “coming soon” sign at the memorial site. The sign, located at the intersection of 108th Avenue and Garfield Street, will serve as a highly visible reminder about the project to the community.

The keynote address was provided by Secretary of State Mike Coffman who is also Honorary Chairperson of the Thornton Veterans Memorial Foundation. Secretary Coffman, a decorated combat veteran, served in the Army and the Marines, twice volunteering to return to active duty; first in 1991 to serve in the Persian Gulf War and again in 2006 to serve in Iraq and help that country hold its first free elections.

You can read more about the event, see the photos and watch the news coverage from channel 7 and channel 2 on our website at:  http://www.thorntonveteransmemorial.org/news/index.html

cid:image002.gif@01C6CD77.8CB321F0  Make a contribution or shop online! We have setup an online donation system - contributions of any size are appreciated! We also sell a wide variety of Thornton Veterans Memorial merchandise, the proceeds of which all go for the memorial.  Also do not forget the paver bricks!  These 4" X 8" and 8" X 8" paver bricks can be purchased and engraved with a message from a citizen or veteran and will be used to make up the walkways at the memorial. They will serve as a perpetual reminder of how much the contributions of veterans meant to this country and the city. These bricks are a great way to say thank you to our veterans.  With the holidays coming up, they are a great gift idea. To get started, simply go to our website and click on the “Online Store” link.  We need your support!

cid:image003.gif@01C78251.EA630BF0  See what is happening on our event calendar!  Be sure to watch our event calendar that shows all of our meetings and TVMF related functions. We will also keep it up to date with other veterans’ related events. To view the calendar, just click the Event Calendar link in the Action Center section of any page on our web site.
