Red Star Thornton Veterans Memorial Email Newsletter - April 28, 2008

With spring here and summer approaching quickly, there is a lot happening with the Thornton Veterans Memorial.

cid:image003.gif@01C78251.EA630BF0  Tax rebates present a great opportunity to support the memorial!  This week the federal government started sending out the rebates as part of the economic stimulus plan that was recently passed by Congress.  This free money from the government is a great chance for those in the community to help support a worthy cause – the Thornton Veterans Memorial.  As you know, our project is entirely privately funded – we receive no public money – and we are dependent on the generosity of our supporters.  Please consider using part of your rebate to support the Thornton Veterans Memorial – it can’t be done without you!  Donations can be made online by clicking the orange “donate” button at www.thorntonveteransmemorial.org or you can mail them to Thornton Veterans Memorial Foundation, PO Box 29592, Thornton, CO 80229.  Thank you as always for your support!

cid:image003.gif@01C78251.EA630BF0  Look for us at Thorntonfest – May 17th.  TVMF will be at the city festival to talk to the community and discuss the latest progress on the project and upcoming events.  Thorntonfest is Saturday, May 17th from 10 a.m. - 5p.m. at the Thornton Multipurpose Fields.  Be sure to stop by our tent!

cid:image003.gif@01C78251.EA630BF0  Planning continues for Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall event.  Our members are working day and night to ensure this extraordinary event is a tremendous success.  The Foundation, working in conjunction with the city of Thornton, has arranged to have this extraordinary memorial present from July 3 to July 7, 2008 - most fittingly during the city’s Independence Day celebration. The Wall will be available for public viewing 24 hours a day on those dates at the multipurpose fields at the Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center (11151 Colorado Boulevard, Thornton, CO 80233).  This will be a huge event for the city and all area citizens.  To learn more about the event, please click here:  http://www.thorntonveteransmemorial.org/news/wall

cid:image003.gif@01C78251.EA630BF0  Area organizations and businesses support Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall event.  A number of area businesses and civic organizations have recently become sponsors of the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall event and we thank them for their support.  Hunter Douglas, Sun Enterprises, Dodge Sign Company, Radisson Graystone Castle, MetroNorth Newspapers, United Power, Northglenn American Legion Post 22, Colorado Veterans of Foreign Wars and more have stepped forward to support this extraordinary event and we thank them all!  If your company or organization would be interested in sponsoring the event and supporting our veterans, please see here:  http://thorntonveteransmemorial.org/news/wall/sponsor.html

cid:image003.gif@01C78251.EA630BF0  Volunteers for Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall Event Needed.  With the announcement of the traveling wall coming to Thornton, we are seeking volunteers to help us with the event as it will draw thousands of visitors.  You can help with any number of tasks including setting up and taking down the wall, daytime staffing to work the computer and assist visitors (guest services), overnight guest services and security, and people to take 20 minute shifts to read the names on the wall in remembrance on Sunday, July 5.  If you would be interested in volunteering, please email us at info@thorntonveteransmemorial.org.  We would appreciate your help!

cid:image003.gif@01C78251.EA630BF0  Next Meeting, Monday, May 5 @ 7:00pm at the Thornton Civic Center.  Our meetings are held on the first Monday of the month.  This project is a community project and we wholeheartedly encourage anyone who is interested to attend to learn more and if so inclined, to join us in helping to make the project a reality.

As always, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!  Thank you for your continued support!
